Qatar road accidents statistics for 2018 shows remarkable progress in road safety as the average number of road-accident deaths per 100,000 persons came down from 5.4 to 4.9 deaths, Director General of Traffic Maj. Gen. Mohammed Saad al Kharji has said At a press conference held at the Traffic Directorate on Sunday to announce road traffic and safety statistics for the year 2018, Maj. Gen. Kharji said Qatar's average of 4.9 road accident deaths per 100,000 persons is a remarkable achievement as it's far below the global average of 17.4, the European average of 9.3 and high-income countries average of 9.2 deaths.The number of persons who died in road accidents in 2018 declined by 5.1 percent . Parents hiring motorbikes for their young children, organizing motor shows without following safety requirements, using quad bikes with high-speed engines by unqualified drivers and absence of safety signboards were highlighted as causes of accidents in Sealine. The highest number of traffic fatalities in 2018 happened in the Industrial Area (14) followed by Faereej Soudan (13), Laibeeb (11) and Wakra & Sealine (8).
