Renowned international business magazine ‘The CEO Views’ has identified Application Design for Global Solutions Computer Systems (ADGS), an innovator in deep technology that uses fundamental science and advanced technologies to build futuristic applications, as one of the top 50 most innovative companies to watch in 2021.
Praised as one the 15 most remarkable health innovations in the last edition of WISH (World Innovation Summit for Health), ADGS was more recently selected as one of the most promising start-ups by the American incubator ‘500Startups’, and the founders were also featured in the American-based APAC Entrepreneur’s ‘10 Most Dynamic Entrepreneurs of Qatar in 2021’.
"Every entrepreneur would be proud to be selected as one of the 10 most dynamic entrepreneurs of Qatar or as one of the top 50 most innovative companies to watch, by US magazines, but I must emphasise that nothing would have been possible without the excellence of my team, my partner, and the strong support of the Qatar Foundation,” says Hassan Al Ansari, co-founder and president of AGDS.
Aysha Al-Hamadi, Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) Product Development and Grants Management Fund Director, said: "Recognising the value of an innovative idea, even before it matures into a viable commercialised product, is at the very heart of what we do at QSTP. We are proud to have supported ADGS right from the start of their journey, via our Product Development Fund (PDF) awards and intensive mentorship through its participation in two of our highly-regarded accelerator programmes – XLR8 and MENA Dojo.
"It is certainly an honour for ADGS to be recognized internationally by The CEO Views, and there is no doubt that innovations in deep technology are becoming increasingly important on the global stage as well as for the digital transformation in Qatar. At QSTP, which is part of Qatar Foundation Research, Development, and Innovation (QF RDI), we are determined to champion Qatari businesses, innovators, and entrepreneurs through our vibrant ecosystem, which is why it is fantastic to see another success story in the form of ADGS, who are at the forefront of this sector.”
Dr Nabeel Al-Salem, Chief Advisor Partnerships of QF RDI division, added: "Identifying the potential impact of ADGS’s technologies early on in its development, QF RDI awarded it our very first ‘Innovation Coupon’. This award is designed to help Qatar-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups that are developing new technology-focused products and services, to overcome inevitable challenges faced when growing their venture.
"The recognition that ADGS has received as an innovator is well-deserved. It is also a testament to what can be achieved when the start-up community is provided with the right tools, support mechanisms, and guidance to develop pathways to success. All of which are key elements of QF’s Research, Development, and Innovation ecosystem, for the benefit of Qatar and beyond.”
QF and QSTP, with extraordinary prescience, have strongly supported the creation of ADGS, the very first Deep Technology company in Qatar. Deep Technology companies are known to drive the technological leadership of countries, and are naturally found in the world’s richest and most powerful nations.
"The question one might have is if they are rich and powerful because of these Deep Tech companies or if they host Deep Tech companies because they are rich,” says Co-founder and CEO Christophe Billiottet. "In a region more prone to trading goods and selling fossil fuels, Deep Technology companies have a major role to play, and we must say that Qatar Foundation is one of the very few organisations that fully understands this,” he notes.
"QF knows that private sector Deep Technology is a long-term strategic choice for Qatar. By producing and relying on Deep Tech, Qatar would not only be less dependent on technological countries but could build considerable wealth from it,” adds Al Ansari.
Al Ansari and Billiottet’s strong disapproval of GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon) using artificial intelligence to exploit people’s personal information for profit brought them together to establish ADGS Computer Systems as a laboratory researching and developing groundbreaking technological products ethically, for everyone’s benefit. After they were formally established in 2015, QF offered invaluable support in the form of more than $500,000 in funding to help build their critical artificial intelligence and machine learning platform.
ADGS’s approach to the evolving social challenges has been its strong determination coupled with in-depth research to strengthen the fundamentals. With plethora of brilliant scientists – including a phlebologist and surgeon – mathematicians, engineers and biologists, ADGS has forayed into building futuristic applications that understand complex human behaviour and has set itself apart from its competition.
The company took five years of research and development to deliver their flagship products: STROKK, TASMO and PANDEXIT. "STROKK is a neuromuscular algorithm applied as a security programme to recognise users by their unique typing style on a regular computer keyboard. TASMO is an unstructured big data analysis program supported by artificial intelligence and natural language processing. PANDEXIT is the most sophisticated: it’s a set of algorithms to simulate widespread mineral, biological or social phenomena,” says Al Ansari of the innovation which has recently simulated the spread of emerging COVID-19 variants to help governments and decision makers evaluate the outcome of multiple COVID-19 policies.
"We are currently the only Deep Tech company of Qatar, but there is room for more. Qatar just has to set up the proper policies to become a flourishing place for them, and I know brilliant minds who would be more than happy to build a strong technological future for my country,” concludes Al Ansari.
