Qatar has condemned the assassination of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, calling it "a clear violation of human rights”.
This came as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Saturday made a phone call to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif.
During the call, they discussed bilateral relations and issues of common concern.
The FM expressed Qatar’s strong condemnation of the bombing that took place in Tehran and the assassination of the scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the Research and Innovation Organization at the Iranian Ministry of Defense, in an armed attack, considering it a clear violation of human rights.
He expressed Qatar’s condolences to the government and people of Iran, stressing that such steps will only contribute to pouring more fuel to the fire at a time when the region and the international community are looking for ways to reduce tensions and return to the table of dialogue and diplomacy.
The FM called for restraint and finding fundamental solutions for the outstanding issues.
For his part, Dr Zarif valued the stance of the government and people of Qatar, stressing the strength of the relations between the two countries.
