Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed the Institute’s host country agreement via video conferencing on the occasion of the official opening of the Institute’s office in Doha.
The agreement was signed by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Hammadi and GGGI Director-General Frank Rijsberman, in presence of Qatar’s Ambassador to South Korea HE Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Haiki and GGGI’s Deputy Director-General Hyoeun Jenny Kim.
Qatar was one of the 16 founding countries of the Global Green Growth Institute in 2012, an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
In 2019, the GGGI and the Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Environment launched a cooperation programm on activities that enhance the environmental balance in Qatar, in light of the unprecedented urban, economic and social progress that has been made.
Speaking on the occasion, Hammadi congratulates GGGI for its expansion in Qatar.
He said Qatar was among the first countries to join the treaty establishing the Institute in 2012, when it contributed $10 million, pointing out that Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, is a member of the institute’s advisory board for the next two years.
He said Qatar had adopted the proposal of opening an office for the Institute since it was presented in 2012 by the Institute’s officials until signing an agreement to host the office of the Global Institute for Green Growth in Doha.
Hammadi expressed hope for continuous cooperation between the two sides to enhance environmental development, which is one of the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
