Following the Qatar government’s decision to close schools and universities nationwide due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, most Indian schools in Qatar are prepared to begin the new academic year (2020-2021) with online classes starting from April 5.
The Indian schools start their new academic year in April while most other schools begin the new cycle in September every year.
"As per the directives of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, all educational institutions in Qatar are closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Considering the present circumstances, we’ll be making the best favourable use of this situation where we cannot be physically present in school. However, this provides us with an opportunity to continue education through new methods of remote learning,” DPS-MIS, a prominent Indian school in Qatar, said in a statement on Friday.
"We are delighted to inform you that we’ll reopen the school on April 5, 2020 for classes three and above. Teachers will interact virtually with students and will also conduct classes,” the school said.
"The school has decided to commence e-learning for the students of classes 1-5 from April 5, 2020 through the Microsoft Teams platform. Weekly plans for all subjects will be uploaded on the school portal of DPS Modern Indian School. The e-learning process will be facilitated through the Pearson Active App, which will be made accessible for all students,” the school said.
While e-learning classes will also be conducted for students of classes 6-8, the school said that teachers will interact virtually with students and also conduct classes for students of classes 9 and above.
"In view of this emergency situation, the school has made arrangements for Remote Learning Classes which will be conducted five days a week. Teaching timings will be from 9:15am to 1:45pm. The scheduled timetable of the classes will be uploaded on the school website shortly,” the DPS-MIS said.
Teachers and students interact online through the Zoom App to accomplish the target of learning online, DPS-MIS said.
"Regular classes for the new academic year will commence from April 5, 2020 for classes 1 to 12 and from April 7 onwards for kindergarten students. Classes will be converted into virtual classes through Zoom App, well assisted with our integrated e-learning system and parents’ portal,” MES Indian School said in a circular entitled ‘New Academic Year 2020-21’.
"In the light of the prevailing scenario, MES is fully prepared for a long run with uninterrupted learning sessions including lessons for co-scholastic activities like Physical Education, Art, Music and Moral Education along with all their scholastic subjects,” said Hameeda Kadar, principal of MES Indian School.
Birla Public School has announced that virtual classroom will commence for all classes 5 and above from April 5 to begin the new academic year. Similarly, Olive International School and Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) have informed parents about the beginning of the new academic session with online classes.
According to a senior official of the Indian Embassy in Qatar, all Indian schools in Qatar will begin the new academic year this month through online classes.
"While most of the Indian schools will commence the online classes from April 5, some of the schools will start from a different date this month,” the official said.
