OFFICIALS of Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) met with a delegation from the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) at the CRA headquarters recently to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two organisations in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), particularly standards development and recognition.
During the meetings, the ETSI team presented their role and responsibilities in relation to the development of related international standards, as well as the benefits of standards to support development of ICT. CRA briefed the delegation about its mandate and role in addition to the latest technologies, developments and achievements of the ICT sector in Qatar.
"The CRA maintains regular communications with related International organisations to stay up to date with the latest developments in the ICT sector and with international standards in particular,” said Eng Abdulla Jassmi, Technical Affairs Department manager, CRA.
As part of the visit, ETSI officials also met with the telecom service providers, Qatar Foundation, the College of the North Atlantic - Qatar, Texas A&M University, Carnegie Mellon University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar University, Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC), and Msheireb Properties. The meetings included discussions about the standards adopted by these entities and ways of cooperation between them and ETSI.
ETSI is a nonprofit organisation and is one of only three bodies officially recognised by the European Union as a European Standards Organisation in the field of telecommunications, broadcasting and other electronic communications networks and services.
