Municipal authorities in Qatar have seized 250 tonnes of near-expired frozen meat with tampered expiry dates indicating they had a shelf life of up to a year.
The forgery, which has potentially dangerous consequences for consumers, came to light in a raid carried out by the Central Inspection Team of the Ministry of Municipality in a warehouse in Industrial Area.
According to the inspectors, the meat, which was about to expire in a few days, had been repackaged with new expiry dates of up to a year.
Dr Nawal Muhammad Abdullah, the head of the Central Inspection Team, said the seized meat was sent for destruction and the violators referred to competent authorities for further action. (TNN)
