Thirteen more pedestrian bridges will come up at different locations in Doha soon.
This was revealed by Head of Planning and Traffic Safety at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) Brigadier Mohamed Marafi during the opening of a pedestrian bridge on Al Matar Street on Wednesday.
"After a detailed study, 13 locations have been identified for the construction of pedestrian bridges. Construction of some of the bridges will be completed immediately," Brigadier Mohamed told Qatar Tribune.
The pedestrian bridge on Al Matar Street, which opened on Wednesday, has been completed a year ahead of schedule."The second bridge in this series will open shortly on Bank Street in Doha and the third one at West Bay," he added.
"Construction of all these bridges by Elan Group will be completed within two years." Mohamed Marafi said.
The locations of the bridges have been identified after a study by different government entities including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Urban Planning and Environment, Ministry of Transportation and Communications and Ashghal.
Most of the pedestrian bridges in Doha will have elevators, bicycle paths, leased mini shops, vending and ATM machines in addition to offering advertising spaces which will open up a new communication medium for advertisers to reach their target audience.
