THE National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) celebrated the Qatari Human Rights Day, which falls on November 11 of each year, the anniversary of the establishment of the Committee.
Abdullah al Mahmoud, head of the NHRC Public Relations and Media Unit said in a press statement that the celebration is the15th since the establishment of the NHRC on November 11, 2002.
The celebration held in the cultural village Katara, included many educational activities related to the principles of rights as well as recreational, social, voluntary and educational activities, with the participation of several institutions and specialised centres in the country.
Organisations taking care of children and people with special needs as well as the Doha-based United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region attended the event.
Mahmoud noted that such meetings confirmed the interdependence of state institutions and their common goals regarding human rights.
In recent years, the NHRC has been keen to make the celebration open in order to allow participation of all social groups and positive interaction among them.
The purpose of this day's celebration is to highlight State's efforts in enhancing human rights by urging the institutions to exert more efforts to promote the culture of human rights.
