HOW much has"fake news" played in Qatar's current diplomatic crisis? This will be the topic of a debate to be organised by Qatar Foundation International (QFI) as part of Doha Learning Week hosted by the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE).
The impact and threat of"fake news" will be debated by The Doha Debates alumni at a special event open to the public at Northwestern University in Qatar in Education City on Monday (November 13), at 7pm.
The alumni - key former audience members who actively participated in the original Doha Debates series - will take on the roles of moderator and speakers to debate the motion: 'This House believes"fake news" will be the death of real news'.
The Doha Debates ran for eight years from 2004 to 2012 and promoted free speech, dialogue and public engagement on topical and controversial issues. As well as encouraging audience participation at debates, the award-winning Doha Debates reached hundreds of millions of TV viewers around the world.
This debate, which will not be filmed for broadcast, will mark the first time alumni have taken to the stage for a Doha Debates event.
QFI and WISE are members of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. For further information, please visit www.qf.org.qa
