IN a major achievement, Qatar was granted membership of the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet) at an international conference held in Istanbul recently.
The membership came in recognition of the participation of the Cultural Village Foundation 'Katara' in the conference held under the theme 'The Role of Culture in bringing Polarised and Conflicting Societies together through Public Diplomacy'.
Qatar is the only Arab country having full membership of the GPDNet for its significant role in the conference. Other countries of the region were granted associate membership of the network.
Katara participated in the conference upon an invitation from the Chairman of Yunus Emre Institution (Yunus Emre Enstit'fcs'fc) and Chairman of GPDNet under the Turkish Presidency, Prof Dr f1'aaeref Ate'ba.
General Manager of Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti presented a paper at the conference on Kataraf0's role in promoting cultural exchange between societies and presenting it as an effective tool for communication and rapprochement between countries.
GPDNet was founded by public and cultural institutions of nine countries (The Philippines, Sweden, Korea, Taiwan, Nigeria, Poland, Portugal, Singapore and Turkey), including Yunus Emre Enstit'fc in Seoul, the capital of South Korea in 2014. The number of countries in the network has reached 10 with Hungary joining the network recently.
