THE Pakistani community in Qatar celebrated their country's Independence Day with enthusiasm and traditional fervour in Doha on Monday.
The day's celebrations kicked-off with an impressive flag hoisting ceremony held on Pakistan Embassy premises in the Diplomatic Area in the morning.
Ambassador of Pakistan to Qatar HE Shahzad Ahmad unfurled the white-green Pakistani flag amid playing of Pakistan's national anthem. A smart contingent of Pakistan Armed Forces also presented a march past on the occasion.
A large number of Pakistanis attended the function along with their families and children despite it being a working and extremely humid day.
Keeping in view the hot weather, the second part of the function was held in the Embassy's auditorium. Community Welfare Attache Hafiz Junaid Sial read some verses from the Holy Quran.
Head of Chancery Sadia Gohar Khanum read out special messages sent by Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, in which both the leaders highlighted the importance of the day and paid tributes to the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders of the Pakistan Movement whose concerted efforts led to the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.
Speaking on the occasion, the ambassador congratulated his compatriots on the auspicious occasion of their country's Independence Day. He prayed for the well-being and prosperity of community members and urged them to work even harder and earn good name for their motherland. He urged them to follow the golden principles of unity, faith and discipline taught by founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah."You should feel proud in calling yourselves Pakistanis," the ambassador stressed.
Abdullah Manzar and Romaisa Ali of Al Khor-based Sohni Dharti forum delivered speeches underlying the day's importance. Young children, wearing traditional dresses, regaled the audience with their rendition of a patriotic song 'Dil Dil Pakistan; Jan Jan Pakistan'. Syed Intisar Hussain, working with the Al Jazeera Media Network, presented another patriotic song titled 'Aye Watan Pyare Watan' originally sung by late Ustad Amanat Ali Khan.
Counsellors at the Pakistan Embassy Rizwan Manzoor and Mustafa Kamal and Defence Attach` Commodore Irfan Taj also attended the celebrations. A special cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the occasion.
