THE Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will restrict access from Wukair Link Road to G-Ring Road from Wednesday (August 2) in order to open the southbound lanes on the new 11 kilometre Doha Express Highway.
The permanent road change, which is located at the intersection of Wukair Link Road and the G-Ring Road, has been designed in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic. The access change will be implemented at the same time as the opening of the southbound lanes on the Doha Express Highway and is necessary to minimise the risk of vehicle collisions.
The Doha Express Highway is a key component of Ashghal's external expressway network, and is expected to provide significant relief for the residents of Al Wakra and Wukair by providing an efficient alternative to Al Wakra Road.
Ashghal will close the existing access point between Wukair Link Road and the G-Ring Road, preventing access in both directions. Road users in the Wukair area will have two available alternatives on brand new highways to reach key destinations across Doha.
Road users who need to travel to the Corniche are advised to head to the roundabout on Al Wukair Street and take the relevant exit towards Al Wakra. Motorists should continue straight towards the roundabout near Al Wakra Hospital, perform a U-turn and drive for approximately 1.5 kilometres before turning right onto the northbound lanes of the Doha Express Highway. Road users should follow the Doha Express Highway straight towards the G-Ring Road before turning right and heading towards Doha.
Road users who need to travel to the Industrial Area or Salwa Road are advised to head towards the roundabout on Al Wukair Street and head west towards Hamad Port Road. At the roundabout which connects Al Wukair Street and Hamad Port Road, motorists should take their first exit and turn right towards the Industrial Area and East Industrial Street.
The Public Works Authority requests all road users to abide by the speed limit, which remains at 50 kph on local roads in Wukair, and follow newly implemented traffic road signs to ensure their safety.
