SIX police are dead after Taliban forces stormed a security post in Afghanistan's western Farah province, a police spokesman told dpa Friday.
The incident happened early Friday in the Shah Karez area of Sheb-e-Koh district, said Farah police spokesman Iqbal Baher. He said the attack was repelled as fresh security forces were deployed to area.
Five Taliban insurgents were also killed only a few hours later in a separate clash in another district of Farah province, Posht-e-Koh, Baher said. Nine were wounded.
There were no casualties among government forces in the second incident, he said.
Nightly attacks on security posts are on the rise. In the past, they had only been weekly occurrences.
Only last week, 10 police officers were killed when insurgents attacked a police post in west Herat province.
While the war intensifies across the country, Afghan security forces are becoming increasingly overwhelmed and demoralized.
