THE Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) will soon launch a healthy cook book featuring recipes of healthy foods. Once the book is ready, it will be available online at the MoPH's website.
MoPH's Director of Health Promotion and Non-Communicable Diseases Dr Sheikha al Anoud bint Mohammed al Thani revealed this while speaking to media persons at an award ceremony for winners of the 'Cook Healthy Live Healthy' competition in Doha on Monday, which was attended by the Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohammed al Kuwari.
Dr Sheikha al Anoud said the cook book was part of the implementation of the National Nutrition and Physical Activity Action Plan launched in 2011 and Qatar Dietary Guideline (QDG), which was issued in 2015, adding that restaurants, workplaces and universities will be encouraged to have recipes from the healthy cook book.
Speaking on the contest, she said the MoPH received more than 70 recipes from the community of which 57 were successful while the top five were awarded."There were different kinds of recipes including appetisers, main courses and desserts. The 57 successful entries matched QDG standards and were 'creative'."
She added that the designing of the healthy cook book was currently underway.
She also said,"What we are doing now is to promote healthy food and make it available at restaurants, university canteens and workplace food outlets in order to make it accessible to the community. We hope that the community will be more aware to take the right choice at the right time for their health."
