THE number of Indian companies working in joint venture with Qatari companies has exceeded 6,000, according to the Ambassador of India to Qatar HE P Kumaran.
The number of fully-owned Indian companies in Qatar has also reached almost 20, Kumaran told Qatar Tribune recently, adding that many more Indian companies were looking for opportunities to enter the Qatari market to take part in projects related to the FIFA 2022 World Cup.
"As per my information, many Indian companies are expected to begin operations in Qatar in near future. A lot of them will work on FIFA-related projects," the ambassador said.
The ambassador added that a mega exhibition solely for Indian products would be organised in cooperation with Qatar Chamber later this year. The first-ever exhibition of Indian products in Qatar could not be organised in March this year as announced, he said, adding that a much bigger exhibition than the originally planned one would be organised towards the end of the year.
"Originally, we had planned to allow 300 Indian companies to showcase their products during the exhibition. Now, we have bigger plans. We expect to see more than 300 firms participating in the event when it finally takes place," he said.
With Qatar Chamber extending its support to the event, the ambassador said, talks were on with Indian trade bodies such as Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to support the event.
The ambassador expressed hope that the exhibition would help businessmen of both the countries to explore new investment opportunities and trade partnerships.
He said that the exhibition would be an opportunity to showcase prominent Indian industries such as textiles, electronics, real estate and engineering, among others. The exhibition would be an ideal platform for businessmen from both sides to discuss trade deals and forge partnerships.
