THE Community College of Qatar (CCQ) has announced its Fourth Humanities Conference to be held under the theme of 'A Nation in Transition' at the City Centre Rotana in Doha on March 29 and 30.
Speaking at a press conference at CCQ headquarters on Saturday, CCQ President Dr Ibrahim al Naimi said that this year's theme highlights the impact of a comprehensive transition that the CCQ, Qatar and the world are undergoing which needs to be properly addressed and analysed in order to assess their advantages and drawbacks.
Naimi stressed that the region needs to be more inclusive in terms of its areas of focus academically and professionally to include not only material sciences, but also humanities and social sciences that are often underestimated in society. He added that the conference, which has been transitioning towards a global level, will hopefully expand the job market in the fields of social sciences and arts and humanities given their crucial role in developing societies.
Dr Abdallah Hazaimeh, CCQ Dean, said that the two-day conference will address the cultural and educational aspects of the 'transition'. He noted that over the past years, the conference has been evolving in terms of the quality of presenters as well as the number of sponsors.
The fourth edition will witness the participation of CCQ students in a poster and essay competition along with the participation of speakers from 14 countries and 20 CCQ faculty members on topics including social media and gender roles, according to CCQ Chair of Humanities and Social Sciences Department Dr Linda Lebile.
Lebile stressed on the importance of exposing students to research and involving them in the process of organising such conferences and meeting international academics in various fields of research that might draw their attention.
Keynote speakers including the Ambassador of USA to Qatar HE Dana Shell Smith and Qatar University President Dr Hassan al Derham will discuss topics such as the Qatar National Vision 2030.
