THE Cultural Village Foundation - Katara is gearing up for the 'The Fifth String' festival, an event of popular Arab musical instrument 'oud', to be held from March 18 to 21.
The four-day festival will bring together the finest oud musicians from the East and the West on one platform to explore the possibilities of 'oud' through their music.
A first in the region, the festival will present ensembles and individual performances by renowned oud musicians, in addition to hosting seminars, exhibitions of various models of ouds and discussions on the history and current trends of oud music.
The festival will feature some of the greatest names in oud music from Qatar, the Middle East and beyond, including France, Serbia, and Kosovo.
The festival highlights Katara's efforts to promote all art forms, by inviting maestros in the field of performing arts, to perform at one of the best venues in the region. The programme for the event includes rendition of pieces such as 'The rebound stories of Andalusia' composed by Dr Mohammed al Majri, a professor specialised in oud instrument. It will be performed by Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO).
The grand finale will feature a dual performance by famous oud musicians Abadial Jowher and Ahmad Fathi. Oud enthusiasts and music lovers can collect the free tickets on offer at Katara Opera House or online through Katara's official website. (TNN)
