Philippine Ambassador-designate to Qatar Alan L Timbayan arrived in Doha on Wednesday.
He was welcomed by officials of the Philippine Embassy in Qatar.
Timbayan, who hails from Jolo, Sulu in Mindanao Island of the Philippines, is the seventh ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Philippines to Qatar. He replaced Ambassador Wilfredo Santos who is now serving as the head of Philippine mission in Iran.
Many community groups have already expressed interest in welcoming the new Philippine envoy by having him as special guest at their respective events taking place during the weekend. Other community leaders have also conveyed their welcome greetings to the official.
"HERO Qatar welcomes Ambassador Timbayan to Doha. We look forward to hearing the wonderful programmes and initiatives of our new leader. Our group, which is mainly focused on extending assistance to our compatriots in need both in Qatar and the Philippines, is hoping for his full support to our advocacies," said Henry Dimaano, HERO Qatar founding chairman.
GMA Network Doha correspondent and one of the founders of the Alliance of Filipino Journalists in Qatar (AFJQ) Manny Flores urged the community members to support their new leader.
"As Ambassador Timbayan assumes the leadership of the Philippine mission in Qatar, I am hoping for a sound and fruitful partnership between his office and our dynamic community. I also hope that the members of the community will give their full support to the leadership of the new Filipino envoy to ensure that all the programmes of the Philippine government aimed at the betterment of Filipino workers here are realised," Flores said.
Layla Bernal al Lenjawi, head of Filipino food movement Kulinarya Qatar, said:"The dynamic community of Filipinos in Qatar is excited to share with the new Filipino envoy the developments in various community activities. Our renowned 'bayanihan spirit' (communal unity) always brings us together and we are proud to have Ambassador Timbayan to inspire us and motivate the endeavours of the community. The core team of Kulinarya Qatar warmly welcomes our new leader."
On his part, Chair of Association of Filipino Real Estate Executives in Qatar (AFREEQ) Joseph Timothy Rivera described the arrival of the new envoy as a refreshing inspiration to the upcoming activities of the community.
"We trust that the new ambassador would appreciate the strong unity of the Filipinos here, including our dynamism. We have no doubt about his competence to lead us and his credentials assure us of his excellence in his new diplomatic duties," he said.
