THE Minister of Transport and Communications (MoTC) HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti has announced the launch of Qatar ICT Directory. The directory, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), seeks to enhance private sector's footprint in Qatar.
Announcing this at Qatar IT Business Award presentation ceremony in Doha on Tuesday, Sulaiti said the directory is part of MoTC's efforts to make Qatar's private sector more competitive regionally and globally as well as help people from private and public sectors find best ICT service providers and products.
Minister of Economy and Commerce HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim al Thani also attended the function.
Qatar ICT Directory has a fast search feature which helps users search for companies, services and products. Users can smoothly review a list of all ICT companies. Qatar ICT Directory has developed a database of ICT companies in Qatar that will help government and businesses select suitable ICT companies. It helps better understand Qatar's ICT landscape.
Speaking on Qatar IT Business Awards, Sulaiti said,"Initiatives such as the Qatar IT Business Awards help build understanding, generate interest and more importantly, recognise those people who are at the forefront of information and communications technology in Qatar."
Qatar IT Business Awards is an initiative by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to showcase IT business-related achievements in the country. The awards invite companies to submit projects demonstrating cutting edge innovation, best practice and inspirational ways developing new ideas to drive a connected society.
The awards were presented in seven categories - Service Provider of the Year, Cloud Service Provider of the Year, Tech Startup of the Year, Best Mobile Application of the Year, Best IT Adoption in the SME Sector and Smart Solution of the Year. Sulaiti presented awards to the winners.
The companies selected for the award were Malomatia for Service Provider (Software), MannaiInfotech for Service Provider (Hardware), Meeza for Cloud Service, Meddy for Tech Startup, Oordeoo for best Mobile Application of the Year, Riyada Trading for best IT Adoption in the SME sector and QMIC for Smart Solutions.
An expert panel of jury that included reputed IT professional and leading IT establishments selected the winners through an online portal.
Reem al Mansoori, assistant undersecretary of Digital Society at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, said:"Initiatives like these allow us to create awareness of the importance of IT Businesses in the rapid growth and economic development of Qatar. We congratulate the winners and wish to support them with an IT business-friendly environment."
Sponsors of the Qatar IT Business 2016 Awards included leading Qatari organisations, with Qatar Development Bank (QDB) as Platinum Sponsor, Vodafone as Gold Sponsor and Microsoft and Qatar Rail as Silver Sponsors.
