QATAR Charity (QC) has launched a new application called 'Pointer towards Good' which enables users of social networks to donate without paying. The application was launched during the conclusion of a social networking forum.
What makes the system unique is that it can be used for promoting relief projects. Each time a post is shared on the social media, the initiator (first user to share), will receive points. Points accumulated in this manner can be transferred to a charity project building a mosque, drilling a well, implementing educational and health projects, etc.
Mohammed al Yazidi, QC's Financial Resources CEO, announced the launch of the app. He said QC uses technology effectively to support its relief projects and campaigns.
Yazidi said,"QC launched this new application which allows social media users to spend their money and receive The Almighty's reward by supporting charity projects around the world without paying. We were inspired to implement this campaign as we believe those who point towards good receive a great reward. The project encourages users of social networks to use their personal pages for promoting projects."
"QC launched this initiative to help people be a part of good-doing. We are updating this application, making it easier to use. It will give them easy access to promoting links and other services," he said.
The application allows users to closely follow the projects they select. Once they register on the website or through their cellphones, they can view posts on the projects they select, share and promote.
QC was the first to introduce the system of making donations through text messages. It offers self-service devices at public places such as airports and public offices for 24/7 services. People can also donate through credit cards.
QC had received the 'Smart Gov Excellence Award across Qatar' in Kuwait. It received the award for best smartphone applications across civil society organisations.
