With the help of a Qatari philanthropist, Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented a number of humanitarian and developmental projects in Omdurman village in Chad, aiming to improve the living conditions of 5,000 villagers.
The projects include establishing a dispensary, drilling artesian wells, providing grain-milling machines and irrigation pumps, and implementing income-generating projects. QC equipped the dispensary with the latest medical equipment to provide quality healthcare for the residents of the village, who were suffering from the lack of health centres.
To alleviate the suffering of the residents, QC drilled a solar-powered artesian well equipped with water distribution network in the village, and provided time- and labour-saving milling machines.
In the same vein, QC provided the villagers with three electric irrigation pumps to enable them to irrigate their crops and to take advantage of the lands near the Chari River. The project helped the village to move towards self-sufficiency in food.
As part of the income-generating projects, QC provided families of widows and orphans with stalls, sheep, motorcycles and sewing machines to improve their living conditions.
During an inspection visit to the dispensary, the Secretary of the Ministry of Health in Chad expressed his ministry's gratitude towards the Qatari people for their generous donations and the QC for its humanitarian and developmental efforts, especially in the field of health.
"We are prepared to cooperate with QC in providing the dispensary with medical staff. The humanitarian and developmental projects have made a steep change in the lives of villagers by providing them with all the services they need," he added.
Khalid Huda, director of QC office in Chad, said QC has effectively contributed to alleviating the suffering of the villagers by reducing the prevalence of water-borne diseases, fostering self-sufficiency and marketing their products.
