Ooredoo has released a statement aimed at 'setting the record straight' following the announcement on Thursday that Ooredoo tv and Mozaic TV services will no longer broadcast beIN Sports channels.
In order to be as transparent to customers as possible, Ooredoo has released more information about the contract issues with beIN Media Group, stating that not one, but two offers of increased amount were rejected by the sports company within a period of one week after months of silence. According to the telecommunication company's statement, the week-long negations reached a dead-end on Thursday afternoon when beIN stuck to its demand of an unreasonable amount for the contract renewal.
The Ooredoo statement goes on to point out that other telecommunications companies across the region had also faced similar issues with beIN, but had been given a full month to respond to the offer. With football and sporting packages being among the most popular contents for expats and nationals alike in Qatar, Ooredoo has called for beIN to be a more responsible partner in the world of televised sport, as it works with companies to fulfil the demand of customers in Qatar and around the world.
Customers across Qatar took to social media channels this weekend after Ooredoo posted a number of Tweets stating that it was not responsible for the sudden and unexpected withdrawal of the beIN channels from its service. Besides apologising for the disruption, Ooredoo has offered compensation for beIN subscribers, of six months' free access to its StarzPlay entertainment package, Fox channels, OSN Yahala and Rotana content.
