Saleem Golam guided Mohammed Kazim al Ansari & Sons-owned Fort Moville to a fighting triumph in the 12th Race Meeting at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club Racecourse in New Al Rayyan on Wednesday.
The Al Khor Cup over 2,000m distance was the feature event of the day and the four-year-old chestnut colt, trained by Ahmed Kobeissi, managed to hold himself superbly and beat Courtofversailles under Marvin Suerland by half a length. Crescent earned the third place with Xavier Ziani astride.
This was the maiden triumph for Fort Moville in 11 races, eight of them in Doha. But he had been in strong form with Suerland leading him to one second-place finish and two third spots in the last four races on the same course. Nasser Abrahim al Mohannadi awarded the winning party.
Earlier, Al Hareth, owned by Mishal bin Ali al Attiya and trained by Jassim Mohammed Ghazali, produced a power-packed burst on the home front and won the Local Thoroughbred Open (1,400m) by one and half lengths over Batter, his fourth triumph in a row and fifth in last six runs.
With Richard Mullen holding the reigns, Al Hareth got the better of Batter's challenge easily and Mutawassal finished third.
