QATAR will organise a flawless FIFA World Cup in 2022, Spanish Ambassador to Qatar HE Ignacio Escobar said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a function to honour Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Secretary-General Hassan al Thawadi with 'Friends of Spain' award in Doha, Escobar said the Supreme Committee has excelled in handling various aspects like infrastructure development and security management for a successful world cup.
"Qatar is maintaining highest standards in all fields to organise a world cup that is environmentally sustainable. The standards applicable in fields like labour and security rank among the highest in the world and serve as a model to other national and regional institutions," the envoy said.
"This year we are bestowing the institutional award upon Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy in recognition of its support and commitment to the Spanish community in Qatar. Many Spanish companies and professionals are collaborating with this esteemed institution to prepare for the mega event for the first time in the Middle East region," the envoy said.
Spain is committed to extending its support not only for the development of infrastructure and sports facilities, but also for evolving latest sports policies, the ambassador said."Spain will also impart training to athletes, technical teams and work on the usage of sports medicine during the world cup," he said.
