Beijing: China and Russia on Thursday criticized Western countries and sanctions as the leaders of the BRICS group started their summit. The group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, should “take responsibility” and work for “equality and justice” in the world, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his opening remarks. He called for countries to oppose unilateral Western sanctions. Russian President Vladimir Putin meanwhile blamed “thoughtless and selfish actions of certain states” for the global economic crisis, adding that “honest and mutually beneficial cooperation” are the only way out of the crisis.
