The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is preparing to launch its blood donation campaign across six of its Health Centres, during the month of July. The initiative is being organised in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Blood Donor Centre, through a fully equipped mobile blood donation unit.
PHCC staff are expected to take part in the campaign, which will start on Sunday, July 3rd, and aims to enrich the blood bank’s supply and save the lives of the injured, sick, and those undergoing various surgeries.
The blood donation campaign is being organised to mark World Blood Donor Day 2022, held under the theme ‘Donating Blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save life.’
World Blood Donor Day takes place annually on 14 June and was created to help raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion, while highlighting the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems.
The day also offers an opportunity to call to action governments and national health authorities, to provide adequate resources that help increase the collection of blood from voluntary, unpaid blood donors.
Huda Al Wahedi, Executive Director of PHCC’s Corporate Communications Department, said “PHCC supports campaigns that promote a culture of voluntary blood donation and educate the public, our staff, and Health Centres on the importance of national and humanitarian initiatives that help facilitate an adequate blood supply for patients, noting that blood donation reactivates blood circulation and renews cells”.
The mobile blood donation unit will visit Al Wajbah Health Centre on Sunday, July 3rd, Mesaimeer Health Centre on Tuesday, July 5th, Umm Slal Health Centre on Wednesday, July 20th, Qatar University Health Centre on Thursday, July 21st, Al Wakra Health Centre on Friday, July 24th, and Omar Bin Al Khattab Health Centre on Tuesday, July 26th, from 8am to 12pm.
