Galfar Al Misnad has been awarded the prestigious RoSPA Gold Health and Safety Award 2022 by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), for demonstrating high health and safety standards in 2021, and working hard to ensure their employees are kept safe at their workplace.
The award was given at a glittering RoSPA award ceremony held in Dubai recently, where top companies of the region were felicitated for their health and safety achievements. The gala event included guest speakers and an opening address from RoSPA President Baroness Jolly, and Chief Executive Officer, Errol Taylor, who handed over the award to Galfar’s Corporate HSE Manager, Venkatesan Kulandaivelu.
“This is a recognition of the conscious efforts made by every single employee of Galfar Al Misnad in working safely. My sincere gratitude to each one of them. This RoSPA Gold Award demonstrates the high standards of our company policy, our eagerness to improve, and desire to always aim for excellence in the health, safety and environmental management systems. Appreciation and thanks to RoSPA for organising their maiden award ceremony in Dubai, it was a great opportunity for the winning organisations to celebrate, network, share, and learn the best industry safety practices with each other,” said Kulandaivelu on the honour.
This is the second RoSPA award for Galfar Al Misnad. The leading Qatari contractor had received the RoSPA Silver Award in 2021 for their safety performance and HSE initiatives taken during the year 2020. The further upgrading of their HSE activities and initiatives in 2021 led to the RoSPA Gold Award in 2022.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is a non-profit organisation based in the UK that recognises organisations worldwide for their efforts in Health and Safety. Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants vie to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running Health & Safety industry awards. Organisations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice.
This significant award comes on the heels of Galfar Al Misnad’s recent receipt of British Safety Council’s International Safety Award for 2022, with Merit, for the company’s overall safety performance. Galfar Al Misnad also received the International Safety Award 2022 for the Roads and Infrastructure in Al Wajba East Project that is being executed for Ashghal.
This is the sixth consecutive year in which Galfar Al Misnad is winning the International Safety Award; and the eighth time overall. Notably, the company has received the award in the Merit category four times, and two times in the Distinction category. In addition, two of Galfar Al Misnad projects have received the award in the Distinction category, one of which went on to be declared as the Best in Country for 2021.
“As a testimony to our efforts in HSE, we had the honour of being felicitated for our commitment towards upholding health and safety standards at the workplace by His Excellency Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al Marri, the Minister of Labour, at the Occupational Safety and Health Conference held by the Ministry of Labour in Qatar recently. We were one of only six companies to be honoured at the event. This acknowledgement gives us further impetus to continue pursuit of excellence in HSE,” said Satish G. Pillai, Executive Director, Galfar Al Misnad.
