Speaking on the occasion of his country’s National Day celebrations, Ambassador Ismayilov said Qatar has always supported Azerbaijan’s position on all forums such as the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Non-Aligned Movement and others.
The event was attended by Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library HE Dr Hamad Abdulaziz Al Kawairi; Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani; Director of Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Ambassador Ibrahim Fakhroo; members of diplomatic corp and guests.
The envoy said Azerbaijan and Qatar have solidified a privileged relationship built on common values in all fields, which is a true reflection of the strong human, cultural and economic links between the two countries, especially after the visits of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Azerbaijan on March 7, 2016 and the visit by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Qatar on February 26, 2017.
“We can express our satisfaction with the fact that despite the pandemic situation, we managed to hold two important events in Baku with physical presence of the delegations, in addition to a number of online meetings between relevant authorities of the two counties last Autumn. Thus, on September 7, 2021, we had the second round of bilateral political consultations and on October 18, Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Economic, Trade and Technical Commission held its third meeting,” he said.
He added that on the sidelines of the Joint Commission’s meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar signed an agreement on behalf of their respective governments on visa exemption for holders of Qatari passports, effective from March 27, 2022, allowing Qataris to enter and stay in Azerbaijan for a maximum period of 30 days without a visa. Talking about the significance of the National Day celebrations, Ambassador Rashad said Azerbaijan, first democratic country in Muslim World, was created on May 28 in 1918.
“The life of the Democratic Republic was not long. But great works are done during this short period. The national flag, which stands behind me, was first adopted and raised by the National Council. The Flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic demonstrates our commitment to our national moral values and statehood traditions. The Azerbaijani state anthem, which was the work of our great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, was adopted. Positive work has been done in other areas. State structures have been established,” the envoy said.
