Scale7, the first fashion and design business incubator in Qatar founded by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), in partnership with M7, concluded another series of intensive ‘Labs Programmes’ for 3D printing technology. The workshop aimed at enabling start-ups in the fashion and designs ecosystem with the advanced programmes necessary for them.
The intensive workshop was held between May 23 and 25 to train entrepreneurs to integrate 3D printing technology into their product design workflow, where the idea and concept are combined with design, preparation and materials used to manufacture the final product that can be a prototype, a sculpture, a meta-product, or a final product ready to be used.
Design and prototyping products and accessories using a computer and a 3D printer is an innovative approach to embrace agile business models and support start-ups to adapt their products to the market requirements before investing in mass production.
The intensive workshop held by Scale 7 Incubator covered topics such as overview on design for additive manufacturing; shape analysis; and processes and materials for 3D printing and digital fabrication.
The workshop also enabled participants to understand the technical principles and workflows for 3D printing. They were able to design basic 3D printable objects combining process knowledge and design tools. Post the programme, the participants will get digital acumen to create objects of the future.
The 3-day workshop encouraged designers to integrate their experience into the designs they work on, to create a link between the artistic concept, life experience and scientific knowledge to be reflected in their products, relying on the use of appropriate methodologies to design their products.
Commenting on the successful completion of the workshop, Aysha Khalifa Al Romaihi, project manager of Scale7, said, “Having received a tremendous response for our previous workshops such jewellery-making, we continue our journey by concluding new unique 3D printing workshop. This upcoming technology holds tremendous potential in fashion and design landscape. Through this meticulously crafted masterclass, we were able to sensitize our Qatari fashion start-ups with the nuances of 3D printing and the opportunities that it can offer them.”
