The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) hosted the first meeting of the Advisory Board for the Engineering Technology Programs on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Hamad Salmeen Al-Jabri from the Ministry of Defense; Eng. Abdulaziz Ahmad Al-Mahmoud, Director of Production Planning and Water Resources at the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa); Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Zahed, Maintenance Manager at Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO); Abdulla Al-Mannai, Director of the Meteorology Department at the Civil Aviation Authority; and Abeer Faleh Al-Hajri, Director of Information Systems Department at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
Dr. Mariam Al-Hammadi, Vice President of CCQ, opened the meeting with a speech in which she welcomed the Board members and explained the importance of advisory boards in developing the academic programs and curricula offered by the College and evaluating the compatibility of learning outcomes for academic programs with labor market needs. Dr. Khawla Al-Zoubi, Head of the Technology Engineering Department at CCQ, presented a detailed overview of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology programs, including study plans and statistics on the number of students, graduates, and faculty members.
Dr. Ahmad Al-Omari, Dean of the Science and Technology Division at CCQ, stated that the engineering technology programs aim to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills required to enter engineering jobs of a technological nature to meet the needs of the state or to pursue graduate studies, in accordance with international standards. He also stated that these programs include many specialized courses that provide students with practical skills in their field of specialization, allowing them to meet national needs in this field later on.
The meeting covered a variety of topics, including the mechanism for evaluating engineering technology professionals’ employment needs in the Qatari labor market, as well as some suggested recommendations for developing the skills required for graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology programs to engage in the labor market.
It is worth noting that the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs oversees the formation of advisory boards and the selection of members with expertise from various sectors of the labor market as well as distinguished College graduates. Members elect the chair of the Board and his deputy at the first meeting.
