Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented 92 water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects in Sanghar, Badin and Tando Muhammad Khan districts of Pakistan’s Sindh province this year.
The projects included installation of water pumps, construction of sanitation facilities and raising awareness of personal and environmental hygiene. The projects were designed to improve health and hygienic in most vulnerable communities, and provide them with clean drinking water.
QC implemented 47 WASH projects in Badin District, 20 in Tando Muhammad Khan District, and 25 in district Sanghar, focusing on vulnerable communities. The WASH interventions were carried out in villages, schools and mosques.
Naeem Soomro, deputy director of the Social Welfare Department of Tando Muhammad Khan District, paid a visit to QC’s WASH interventions. He said, “Tando Muhammad Khan is one of the deprived districts of Sindh.” He thanked QC for carrying out the WASH projects in the district, hoping that the charity would expand its interventions in other districts as well.
The beneficiaries expressed their delight at the project. “We were facing problems related to water, sanitation and health, and we had to practise open defecation,” said Jan Muhammad, a beneficiary of the WASH projects in Sanghar District. “We are very happy that we have now drinking water and toilets at our homes with the support of Qatar Charity,” Added Jan Muhammad.
It is worth mentioning that last year QC installed 81 solar water pumps in these three districts of Sindh, with 40 solar water pumps in Badin District, 20 in Tando Muhammad Khan District and 21 in Sanghar District.
