The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), represented by the Environmental Monitoring and Laboratory Department, in coordination with Qatar Environment and Energy Research Center at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, has added six new stations to the national air quality monitoring network, bringing the total number to 26 stations.
The ministry explained that a preliminary link to these stations has been completed, which contributes to a broader monitoring of air quality in the country. The ministry said these achievements reflect its role in protecting the environment, and come as part of the second national strategy for air quality management, which contributes to maintaining ambient air quality in the country according to international standards.
The ministry, in a related context, noted that Al Thumama and Education City stadiums were added to the stadiums that were covered through the existing air quality monitoring stations and linked with the ministry within the air quality monitoring project around the main stadiums and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 training grounds, to contribute to monitoring the air quality in the areas of the World Cup stadiums, and ensuring the best air quality standards are secured in the places of sports activities and various international events and tournaments, especially the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, pointing out that the coverage of all remaining stadiums will be completed before the start of the tournament.
