The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) has received Green Key certification for its ongoing efforts to implement best practices for sustainability, making it the first museum in Qatar and the Middle East to do so. Green Key is a leading standard of excellence in the tourism industry for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations. This prestigious eco-label represents a commitment by businesses to ensure that their tourism establishments meet the Foundation for Environmental Education’s stringent criteria. Since its debut in 2019, the NMoQ has received several sustainability accolades, including becoming the world’s first national museum to receive both a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold and a 4 Star GSAS (Global Sustainability Assessment System) sustainability rating, as well as recognition in the International Beautiful Buildings Green Apple Awards 2022, which are organized by the Green Organisation, an international non-profit environment group..
