The Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Wednesday attended the luncheon banquet hosted by Prime Minister of Spain Dr Pedro Sanchez in honour of HH the Amir and his accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the Government at the Palace of Moncloa.
Before the banquet, the Spanish prime minister welcomed HH the Amir and his accompanying delegation, describing the visit as historic, given that it comes in the year in which the two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
He pointed out that the state visit of HH the Amir to Spain reflects the interest that Spain attaches to relations with Qatar.
He expressed his admiration for the path that Qatar has taken in recent years under the rule of HH the Amir, wishing that the strategic relations between the two countries would develop to serve the two friendly peoples.
For his part, HH the Amir thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and hospitality, and for the interest in developing the relations between the two countries, affirming that Qatar shares this interest with friends in Spain.
HH the Amir noted the friendly atmosphere that prevailed in the Qatari-Spanish talks during his visit, expressing his satisfaction that the two countries have signed a number of cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding, which will contribute to the development of the growing cooperation between Qatar and Spain in the fields of education, economy, investment and energy.
HH the Amir pointed out that holding the Qatari-Spanish Economic Forum during the visit was an opportunity to explore more areas of cooperation.
He welcomed the Spanish fans to Doha to attend the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, wishing the Spanish national team success.
On the Spanish side, the banquet was attended by ministers and senior officials.
HH the Amir later left Madrid after concluding a state visit to Spain.
HH the Amir was seen off at Adolfo Suarez MadridBarajas Airport by Deputy Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Luis Cuesta Civis, Ambassador of Qatar to Spain HE Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Hamar, Ambassador of Spain to Qatar HE Belen Alfaro Hernandez, a number of senior Spanish civil and military officials, and members of the Qatari Embassy.
HH the Amir sent a cable to HM King Felipe VI of Spain and Prime Minister Dr Pedro Sanchez, expressing appreciation for the hospitality and honour accorded to him and his accompanying delegation during the visit, which provided the opportunity to discuss with them aspects of developing friendship and relations between the two countries in various fields for the good and interest of the two friendly peoples.
