Doha
Students and other young people in Qatar and around the world have been invited to apply to Doha Debates’ Ambassador Programme, an initiative that empowers the next generation to learn to constructively debate solutions to complex global issues.
Doha Debates will give 40 young people the opportunity to engage with international experts and community leaders to develop advanced communication skills through discussions on issues like climate change, gender equality and disability justice.
From August 31 to November 16, 2022, ambassadors will attend weekly virtual sessions guided by facilitation expert Dr Brandon Ferderer and other international guest speakers, learning to lead intercultural discussions and forging relationships with other young leaders.
Amjad Atallah, Doha Debates’ managing director, said: “After a tremendously successful launch last summer, we’re thrilled to welcome a new cohort of the Doha Debates Ambassador Programme. Doha Debates is all about using debate — and the skills needed to have difficult conversations and to find common ground — to empower young people to take on today’s challenging world.
“The Ambassador Programme takes that mission to a new level, equipping a select group of extraordinary future leaders from around the world to be prominent changemakers. In 2021, the inaugural cohort, representing 17 countries on five continents, learned from one another and from international leaders and activists to ignite individual and collective action.”
Programme alumni stay actively engaged with Doha Debates, a production of Qatar Foundation, representing the organization at high-profile events and projects. Dana Al Ali and Muhammad Wasay Mir, both students in Qatar, were featured in Doha Debates’ 11th marquee debate “Climate Change: Can we rise to the challenge?” in November 2021. Five former ambassadors, including Qatari students Kaltham Alfakhroo and Salah Mahmoud, appeared in the on-stage audience at Doha Debates’ town hall conversation with Malala Yousafzai in March 2022, asking questions about girls’ education in Afghanistan.
The online application for the 2022 Doha Debates Ambassador Programme is open to all fluent English speakers between the ages 18 and 24 who have consistent access to a computer for video conferencing. Applications close on June 5, 2022.
