The corruption trial of former South African president Jacob Zuma has been adjourned until August.
The reason for this is that the country’s highest court of appeal has not yet ruled on several of Zuma’s appeals, the court responsible for the trial announced in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.
Among them was an application for the dismissal of the prosecutor in charge of the trial. If a decision is made on the applications by Zuma’s lawyers by August 1, the trial will resume on August 15, the court ruled.
The 80-year-old Zuma did not attend Tuesday’s trial, which had already been postponed several times.
Zuma is accused of corruption, money laundering and fraud in connection with an arms deal before he became president.
He faces up to 25 years in prison. He himself denies the charges.
