Two weeks of planning and three days of execution with Swiss clock precision, with the participation of nearly 1,200 people, over 300 volunteers and thousands of visitors at the MIA Park in a glittering and colorful grand show, all of this led to a memorable ‘Passage to India 2022’ event.
Day one of the ‘Passage to India’ event saw a grandstanding replica of the most attractive monument of India, the Taj Mahal, inaugurated by Harsh Vardhan Shringla, foreign secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
Indian Ambassador to Qatar HE Dr. Deepak Mittal expressed happiness that after nearly two years of the Covid restrictions, the first grand-scale event of this kind was held and showcased the Indian culture and traditions.
Representatives of embassies of several countries visited and enjoyed the event and the musical extravaganza. The evening started with the musical team singing famous songs from Indian movies.
In his welcome address, prominent Indian community member PN Baburajan thanked the managing committee, volunteers, participants, and visitors’ enthusiasm, which he said, contributed to the success of the event held at the Museum of Islamic Arts Park.
The event was managed by several volunteering teams under the chairmanship of AP Manikanthan. A slew of cultural events from associated organisations, Indian schools, and other Indian teams were managed and presented by Shweta Koshti, Kamala Thakur and Suma Mahesh Gowda.
The dance teams mesmerised the audiences with their wonderful and well-choreographed performances. A number of stalls and food outlets were the other main attraction of the ‘Passage to India’ gala event.
Day two saw students of Indian schools presenting scintillating performances.
At a felicitation ceremony, the sponsors of the event were presented mementos by Xavier Dhanran, first secretary and coordinator officer of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC).
The main attraction of day two was show by trained dogs from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) team. The dog trainers, the responses of dogs, and how accurately the targets were reached and captured, was a treat to watch.A stupendous performance by 175 Indian women with traditional dresses, presenting the dance form of Thiruvathirakali was eye-catching.The Indian ambassador appreciated the ICC and Indian schools for making the ‘Passage to India’ a memorable event.
The initiative by the ICC to honour 40 long-time residents drew wide praise. Those.
Along with ICC President PN Baburajan, ICC Vice President Subramanya Hebbagelu Krishna Kumar Bandhakavi, General Secretary Shweta Koshti, Cultural Secretary, Schools, and Student Coordinator Kamala Thakur, and other ICC members, the organisers and volunteers worked very hard under the committee chairman AP Manikanthan in making the event a grand success.
