With the attendance of the Qatar Olympic Committee President (QOC) HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, Doha hosted the country’s inaugural edition of Spartan Race at the Longines Arena of Al Shaqab on Friday and Saturday respectively.
Day one competition saw more than 600 competitors from women, while day two brought 500 child (girls and boys) together as well as 3000 participants involved in the mixed categories, among them 500 competitors from 15 countries, including the GCC countries.
By organizing this first ever event in the country, the participants (locals and residents) from different age groups will be able to enhancing their physical fitness and testing their body abilities, focus and endurance in a regular manner.
Spartan Race has become increasingly popular as one of the toughest obstacle races internationally organized across 42 countries with more than 2500 annual events. The spartan race includes a number of obstacles such as climbing under barbed wire, fire jump, herculean hoist, rope climb, spear throw, tire flips and wall climbing.
The second day of the event has seen the mixed 5km Spartan Sprint race and 10km Spartan Super Race in addition to the kids’ races which witnessed the participation of 493 kids.
Sergei Perelygin claimed the first place in Super Elite Race with a time 46:31 minutes ahead of Roman Toth in the second place with 46:56 minutes while Hallvard Borsheim finished third with 47:33 minutes.
Yaser Salem clocked 54:28 minutes to win 10km super spartan race while Mohamed Jerfel and Joe Robinson took the second and third places respectively.
Fadi Azima won 5km sprint race with 22:47 minutes. Harry Robinson managed second with 30:43 minutes ahead of Aziz Daloul in the third place with 35:06 minutes.
Amal Daloul won women’s event after finishing the race in 35:15 minutes while Hasna Atwi occupied the second place with 46:57 minutes while Alexa Bristle took the third place with 47:44 minutes.
Ahmed Al Mahmeed claimed the first place in the open race for age categories with 57:26 minutes ahead of Mohamed Al Boloushi in the second place while Yagoub Al Amsawi in the third place.
