The British Council announced the recipients of the Study UK Alumni Awards 2021-22 in Qatar at a ceremony in Doha. In total, six UK alumni were recognised for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders, and for their contribution to strengthening ties between the UK and Qatar.
Following in-depth interviews with a judging panel, recipients were selected for the three award categories: Science and Sustainability Award, Culture and Creativity Award, and Business and Innovation Award.
The prestigious international award celebrates UK higher education and the achievements of UK alumni all over the world. Now in its eighth year, the award received more than 1,500 applications from international UK alumni in more than 100 countries, representing more than 140 UK higher education institutions across the UK.
The Science and Sustainability Award was presented to Jennifer Stables, graduate of University of Cambridge. Jennifer Stables is the Country Representative for the Institution of Civil Engineers in Qatar, President of the University of Cambridge Alumni Society, and a Senior Project Manager for AECOM Qatar, where she leads multidisciplinary design teams. Jennifer is now working on the National Vision Infrastructure in Qatar and compliments her UK degree to be the foundation for a global career in making a difference to both people and the planet.
The Culture and Creativity Award was presented to Dana Al-Abduljabbar, graduate of Cardiff Metropolitan University and University of Leeds. Dana is a professional Qatari Graphic Communication Designer, Artist, Photographer and shortfilm producer. Her aim is to enhance her country’s culture and heritage in a modern way through Art and Design. Upon graduating from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2016, Dana was selected to design a memorial shield to be given to the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani during the National Service Academy graduation, 8th batch in 2017.
The Business and Innovation Award was presented to Aisha Al Jaidah, graduate of Kingston University London. An illustrator and animator, Aisha Ibrahim Al-Jaidah began her career in 2010 as a motion graphics artist at Al Jazeera Children’s Channel. Then, as a senior animation producer, she created the first animated children’s series created by a Qatari local in Doha. Al-Jaidah pursued her dream and received a scholarship to study animation and graduated from Kingston University London, an achievement that motivated her to launch her own animation production company, ‘Blue Penguin Animation’.
Upon receiving the award, Jennifer Stables said, “I am surprised and honoured to have been presented this award for Science and Sustainability in the Study UK Alumni Awards. My engineering degree from the University of Cambridge has enabled me to have an amazing career across the world, and I need to thank AECOM, Engineers Without Borders and the ICE. It was wonderful to attend the presentation ceremony and meet other UK Alumni who have gone on to do truly incredible things.”
Aisha Al Jaidah said, “It is an honour to be recognized and awarded for my achievements. Thank you to the British Council for the overwhelming experience by awarding me the Business and Innovation Award. Studying at Kingston University London was what made my dreams a reality.”
