Seven students of Birla Public School (BPS) have won second place at the Global Act Impact Awards (GAIA), which was part of ‘THIMUN Qatar 2022’.
The students started ‘Project Upcycle’ with an aim to create a more sustainable world through reusing and upcycling old and torn clothes, waste fabric from tailoring stores, and unused materials, etc.
Their mission statement is ‘Undo, Uplift, Upcycle’. They have collaborated with two small businesses, ‘The Sewing Studio’ and ‘Ecosouk Qatar’, as their partners. Part of their mission was to incorporate the United Nations SDG goals, including SDGs 8, 11, 12 & 17.
Amrit Manoj, Balanethran Gurunathan, Dianne Lobo, Ivana Thomas, Nandini Mathur, Paridhi Gaur and Prashansa Oruganti are the high school students behind the initiative.
“The management, staff and students of BPS are extremely proud of their achievement,” said Harish Sanduja, academic director-principal, of the school.
