Iran has paid part of its debt to the United Nations off and had its voting rights in the UN General Assembly reinstated. The leadership in Tehran transferred more than 18 million dollars to the UN headquarters in New York, according to the UN. Under UN rules, nations can have their right to vote in the General Assembly revoked if their debt to the international organisation is at least equal to their membership contribution for the last two years. The suspension of voting rights came into effect for Iran, Venezuela and several other smaller nations earlier this month.
