Qatar Charity (QC) announced on Thursday the operation of a convoy of 10 trucks carrying food baskets, basic supplies, clothing and heating fuel, as an immediate response to the humanitarian needs in Syrian refugee camps in the Arsal area on the Syrian-Lebanese border following the recent snowfall. This assistance is part of the Arsal Relief Campaign, which is part of QC’s Warmth and Peace campaign, and will be distributed in six camps in collaboration with the Islamic Authority for Welfare.
This aid comes at a time when the Arsal region is experiencing a severe cold wave, with snow falling and temperatures dropping to sub-zero at night. The area is currently being impacted by a snow storm, the second of its kind this winter, and camp residents are suffering from a lack of heating materials, as well as tents that have been damaged due to the flow of melting snow and rain into the tents. The aid aims to provide immediate relief aid to affected refugees in order to meet their basic needs, particularly food and heating, in order to alleviate their suffering.
This coincides with a high cost crisis faced by Syrian refugees, particularly the prices of heating materials, which has prevented many families from providing heating for their children in these camps located in extremely cold mountainous areas.
