Every member of the community has an important role to play in the ongoing fight against COVID-19 disease, health authorities have stressed.
In combined message, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) have urged all members of the society to play their role in fighting the disease by getting vaccinated, including having the booster vaccine when eligible without delay; isolating oneself from others if one has signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and getting tested if necessary; and adhering to the precautionary measures including wearing of masks, social distancing and regular hand washing.
According to the message, all individuals 12 years and older who have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine more than six months ago are eligible to receive the booster dose.
On its effectiveness, the message stated that the COVID-19 booster dose provides 75 percent protection against mild to moderate infection and 90 percent protection against severe infection or death.
Advising what people should do if they receive a positive COVID-19 test result, the message said, “If you receive a positive test result for COVID-19 and you are asymptomatic or showing mild or moderate symptoms, you are required to home isolate for a period of 10 days. For the first five days, stay within your room at home and avoid contact with others in your household.
“For the second five days, you may leave your room but you should wear a mask at all times when around other members of the household. Patients showing severe symptoms will be referred to one of the dedicated COVID-19 medical facilities to receive the medical care required.”
