The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Qatar recently held Dominican Week to boost bilateral political, trade, investment, cultural and tourism relations between Qatar and the Latin American state of Dominican
Republic.
Dominican Republic, the second largest state in the Caribbean, is a fast growing economy of the region. Its tropical weather, sandy beaches, rich culture, and intriguing history makes it a favourite destination with tourists.
The Dominican Republic opened its embassy in Doha in 2005, the first in any Gulf state, while Qatar opened its embassy in Santo Domingo in December 2007.
There are a number of bilateral cooperation agreements between the two countries in areas like services, education and tourism:
1:  Joint Statement on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations
2:  Protocol of Consultations between both the countries’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs
3: MoU on Tourism Cooperation
4: Collaboration agreement between Qatar University and Higher Education, Science and Technology of Dominican Republic
5: MoU in the field of Air Services
6: MoU between Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo, and the most recent was
7: MoU on Air Services 
The Dominican Week in Qatar saw a delegation of authorities and businessmen from the Dominican Republic travelling to Qatar to participate in various seminars, meetings and events organised by the Embassy of Dominican Republic as part of the celebrations. 
The Dominican delegation led by Vice President of Dominican Republic, Mrs. Raquel Pe?a, met with Qatari government officials and main economic groups of Qatar. 
The participants got an opportunity to learn about the Dominican Republic through a set of panel discussions, meetings and a slew of events organised during the busy week.
Dominican 2-Star Michelin celebrity, Chef Mar?a Marte, was specially flown from capital Santo Domingo for the launch of the ‘Dominican Pop-up Restaurant’, hosting a menu of Dominican dishes to delight the guests with the amazing Caribbean flavors.  
Dominican Vice President, Raquel Pe?a also inaugurated Dominican art exhibition ‘Colores de Quisqueya’, with paintings by Dominican artists that were exhibited for two weeks at galleries in Katara Cultural Village. 
Meanwhile, Qatar-based highly reputed trauma medicine expert, Prof. Dr. Ruben Peralta, was honoured with national recognition award that was presented to him by Ambassador HE Georges Bahsa Hazim at a ceremony during the Dominican Week. He was feted for his extraordinary services to the Qatar society, his profession and the Dominican community. 
Also, ‘Dominican Cigar Night’ was held in collaboration with Hotel Al Wadi Doha-MGallery, which was attended by ambassadors, guests and members of the Dominican Republic community.
A ‘Dominican Business Guide’ in Arabic was also launched by ambassador Georges Bahsa Hazim, Sigmund Freud Mena and Biviana Riviero.
Speaking on the occasion, the Dominican ambassador said that relations between the two countries are “as fruitful as possible. We continue exploring areas of cooperation and strengthening commercial ties”.
He added: “Recently, the Dominican embassy has set a primary mission to promote more great work that has been done on both sides to expand bilateral exchanges.”
He noted that there are several unexploited opportunities of investment that Qatari businessmen are already interested in, “and due to the increased interest, we have assembled a whole week of promotion for investment and cultural expression, the Dominican Week in Qatar.”
