Islamabad Two Pakistani soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash in the country’s north, the military said in a statement on Monday. The helicopter crashed in Siachen Glaciers, known as the world’s highest battlefield, according to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).  Search and rescue helicopters and army troops have reached the incident site, the statement added. The cause of the accident, in which both pilots were killed, is not yet known. The Siachen conflict started in 1984 when Pakistan and India both moved their forces to capture posts at the glacier. Pakistan charged that an Indian secret operation had compelled it to move its troops into the strategic region of northern Kashmir. Hundreds of soldiers die every year without a shot being fired due to exposure to extreme cold, altitude sickness and avalanches. (DPA)
