Thursday, December 2, 2021, marked 11 years since Qatar won the honour of organising the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, with a sweeping victory in the decisive voting round for the bid to organizing the biggest event in the world of football.
The ceremony to select the host country for the FIFA World Cup 2022 took place in the Swiss city of Zurich. Some of the greatest footballing nations, including the US, which previously organised the World Cup in 1994, were in the final round hoping to win the race to host the tournament.
Qatar excelled in the round over other competing nations and took the world by storm. Qatar surprised the world at the time, and at a time when the World Cup represented a great economic compass that was perfected by the world of finance, business, economic development, great capabilities in infrastructure, great sporting influence in football leagues and attracting professionals.
Despite attempts by some to influence the vote, the point of superiority was through the ballot box, in which Qatar won the race, by six votes (14-8), which is similar to a sweep in the electoral process for files, as no country has previously won the right to host World Cup by such a margin.
Qatar won the bid with a strong presentation of what it can do and what the Qatari file can provide in terms of additions and dimensions to the world of football in the process of organizing and qualitatively adding to the championships in terms of technical, organizational and humanitarian reality.
In the bid file, Qatar relied a lot on the humanitarian value of the region, considering that the Middle East region was known to be a region of conflicts and interactions. However, the Qatari file presented the dazzling aspect of the Middle East and the creativity that can erupt from this region.
Qatar has bet a lot in the file on the humanitarian aspect, considering that the Qatari organization will push aid to the people of the Arab and Middle Eastern region with culture and knowledge, and the developing countries will benefit from the World Cup by developing football through many stadiums that will be dismantled and presented to developing countries, which means that this is a benefit that a project will be achieved.
The goal is “one of the principles of FIFA in the dissemination and development of the game”.
The Qatari file for the organization of the 2022 World Cup met the aspirations and principles of FIFA in support of cooperation and spreading the culture of the game between generations, which was not achieved by other competing files to organize the biggest event.
Qatar has made a major qualitative leap in preparing for the organization of the World Cup through a sincere promise made by the Qatari file that this tournament will be a shining point for tournaments and a guide to the development in the organization of tournaments, when it announced that the tournament will be for all Arabs and not only for Qatar, which is the concept of unity “one of the principles of the international federation.”
“Football by Unifying Peoples” as it will be the first World Cup in the Middle East and the first tournament organized by an Arab country. It is also an opportunity to learn about Arab capabilities in the world of organizing international tournaments and to convey a new concept in organizing tournaments and what the Qatari Arab version can witness to the world.
Qatar included in its file the most important value in organizing tournaments, which is the human value, as the World Cup meets the aspirations of young minds that represent the future.
After less than half the period after the victory of the Qatari file, the first stadium was ready for the big event, so Khalifa International Stadium was opened, followed by Al Janoub Stadium, then Education City Stadium, then Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, then Al Thumama Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, and then Stadium 974, in addition to the readiness of the largest stadiums, which is Lusail Stadium, only remaining one to be announced. All of these stadiums meet the standards of sustainability and fulfil the commitments Qatar made to the world eleven years ago.
Qatar overcame all barriers in work and overcame the difficulties and won the challenge by preparing all the stadiums a year before the start of the big event and testing them in the FIFA Arab Cup 2021.
The Qatari excellence resulted in a clear message to the world that Qatar fulfils its commitments and pledges and knows how to make success and win challenges to achieve the record in preparing for the event a full year ahead of its schedule.
Qatar excelled and won the time race with the organization and thus expelled FIFA’s concerns that it always suffers before the World Cup tournaments, which is the lack of readiness of countries for the big event before a sufficient period of time, and provided FIFA with its practical readiness for the event.
In its race to organize the World Cup, Qatar faced many challenges in organizing the event, but it outperformed them with one phrase, “work and then work.”
The Qatari march went on to success and reached the final station, which is the operation station and the testing of stadiums, and it is now taking place through the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 at the same time. The World Cup will be held in 2022.
With 355 days left to organize the big event, the same young group that presented itself to the world is now standing in charge of the Qatari file to organize the World Cup, that young group that appeared to the world in presenting the file eleven years ago and is now managing the work successfully.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, while announcing the countdown to organizing the 2022 World Cup, that Qatar will organize the best World Cup ever.
