Vienna Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said on Thursday he is stepping down, less than two months after taking office and hours after his scandal-plagued predecessor, Sebastian Kurz, announced his departure from politics. Conservative politician Schallenberg’s resignation heralds more turmoil at the top of Austrian politics, and in particular for the conservative Austrian People’s Party (OeVP). Kurz, who is suspected of corruption, said earlier on Thursday that he was stepping down as party leader and parliamentary group leader of the OeVP. (Agencies)
