beIN MEDIA GROUP (“beIN”) and Leaders in Sport (“Leaders”) hosted high-profile, influential voices from the world of sports during the inaugural two-day conference, Leaders Meet: Qatar 2022. The second day of the premium global sports conference was held at the state-of-the-art beIN MENA headquarters in Qatar, with beIN Group CEO Yousef Al Obaidly delivering the opening keynote.
Director of Technology and Innovation at FIFA Johannes Holzmuller and the iconic Chairman of Referee’s Committee at FIFA Pierluigi Collina, announced the reveal of new Semi-Automated Offside Technology to be test run during all the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 matches: “It is an additional supporting tool for the Video Assistant Referee so that the decisions when it comes to offside can be made faster, more consistent, and more accurate,” stated Holzmuller, with Collina adding: “We are confident that everything will work properly”.
The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 tournament kicked off on beIN SPORTS across the Middle East & North Africa region on Tuesday 30 th November, where the innovative analysis can be seen in action for the very first time.
Earlier in the day, during his keynote address, Al Obaidly discussed the immense topic of the future of broadcasting, as well as the prospect of a biennial FIFA World Cup TM , the piracy plague, and preparations for broadcasting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, noting: “We are an Official Broadcaster like no other; for a World Cup like no other. Next year, we will bring the world to Qatar and showcase Qatar to the world – telling some of the greatest untold human and sporting stories yet. And I have no doubt we will deliver the most unforgettable viewing experience in World Cup history”.
Also on the second day, guests were treated to an inspiring women’s panel around the topic of leaving a legacy for the next generation. Senior women representatives from Qatar Triathlon Federation, Qatar Women’s Sport Committee, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy spoke on what sport means to them, their passion for football, and what it takes to be a truly great leader. beIN is proud to shine a spotlight on under-represented sports and talent through its beINSPIRED initiative, with a particular focus on women’s sport.
Other highlights from the day, included sports insights from Former England Manager & Club Manager, Roy Hodgson; Chief Technology & Infrastructure Officer at Ooredoo, Gunther Ottendorfer; Chairman & CEO at Group ONE, Chatri Sityadtong; Executive Director at QMMF, Amro Al Hamad; CEO of the European Clubs Association, Charlie Marshall; and Ambassador for the Premier League and Former Arsenal Owner, David Dein.
