As many as 49 students of College of the North Atlantic–Qatar (CNA-Q) were recognised for their exceptional academic achievements in the 2020-2021 year, at the 19th annual Academic Awards ceremony.
The students were felicitated based on six categories, namely, Overall Highest Achiever Scholarship, Highest Achiever Merit Award, Distinction Award, Industrial Trades Dean Award, EFL (English as a Foundation Language) Award and Achievement Award.
The Highest Achievers were awarded with scholarships, and all winners received a college certificate and the Distinction was noted on their official transcript.
The event was attended by Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Naimi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education; Dr Mohammed Al-Mulla, vice chairman of CNA-Q’s Board of Trustees; Dr Salem Al-Naemi, president of CAN-Q; Brigadier Commander Admiral Abdullah Al-Mazrouii, acting commander of Qatari Amiri Navy, who was the guest speaker; College Board members as well as high-profile stakeholders.
The Highest Achiever Awards were presented to Sarah Zaher Saleh, a student in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Radiography programme; Zainab Ali, a student in the Advanced Diploma in Information Technology - Application Development programme, and Raniah Farooq, a student in Diploma in Pharmacy Technology programme.
Merit Awards were presented to the Highest Achievers from each of the college’s schools: Business Management and Information Technology - Addalin Lariena Rose Devasahaya Rajan, Almas Sami Ahmed Ayubi, Patrick Gerald Tangi Tamayosa and Roxanne Vanessa Dias; Health Sciences - Asia Naz and Nihala Moosa Panangat; Engineering Technology and Industrial Trades - Mariyam Saleem and Tareq Talal (M.T) Al-Shami.
Besides, some of the achievers were awarded with cash prizes and certificates.
On the sidelines of the event, Dr Al Naemi told Qatar Tribune, “The ceremony is aimed at awarding high achievers and to encourage others to follow in their footsteps.”
According to the president, CNA-Q has over 50 programmes in masters, bachelors, diploma (2 or 3 years) and certificate categories. “We have students of more than 60 nationalities, including Qataris. They are either long-term residents of Qatar or are part of the families who have an opportunity to work here. We are starting to take international students.”
“I am confident these award-winning students will have a successful future ahead and will lead Qatar towards achieving its National Vision 2030,” he added.
Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Naimi said, “The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is happy to support such initiatives with the aim of raising the education level and fulfilling the vision of the strategic plan of the ministry, that mandates to create new and innovative education opportunities with high standards for the Qatari community.”
The event also saw organisations that sponsor CNA-Q being recognized, including AWQAF, QChem, Shell, Education Above All and Qatargas.
